A funeral will be held on Monday for Isaiah Bias, the Ellis County detention officer who was tragically killed by an inmate last week.
The service will take place at 11 a.m. at the Midlothian Conference Center, and the community is invited to attend.
Officer Bias, 28, worked with the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office for almost seven years.
He was promoted to corporal in 2022 and had been an important part of the detention services team.
He left the sheriff’s office in 2016 to earn a degree but came back to continue his career.
He had just become an uncle a week before his death and was the oldest sibling in his family.
Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman spoke about Bias, saying, “Isaiah exemplified the values of Ethics, Leadership, Loyalty, Integrity, and Service. His legacy will continue to inspire us all.”
The tragic event occurred on December 16 when Officer Bias was trying to put an inmate back into his cell.
The inmate, 45-year-old Arron Thompson, had been in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day.
When Bias approached him, Thompson punched him, knocked him to the ground, and began choking him while hitting him in the head.
Thompson is now facing capital murder charges.
This service honors the life and memory of Officer Isaiah Bias, who was known for his dedication and service to the community.
