Two U.S. judges have told the Trump administration to give back jobs to thousands of federal workers who were fired all at once.
These workers were let go from many departments like defense, energy, and veterans affairs.
What the Judges Said
- Judge Alsup in California
Judge Alsup said the mass firings were unfair and went against the rules. He called it a “sham” to avoid following proper procedures. He also pointed out that some workers were fired for “bad performance,” even though they had great reviews. - Judge Bredar in Maryland
Judge Bredar agreed that the firings broke the rules. He said workers should be temporarily rehired until everything is sorted out.
Why It Happened
The Trump administration said it followed advice from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to shrink the government workforce.
But the judges found evidence showing the firings were not done fairly.
The Response
The White House is upset and said the courts don’t have the power to stop the president’s decisions about hiring and firing.
They plan to fight these orders.
