In her song “Christmas Tree Farm,” Taylor paints a picture of a perfect winter, full of happy memories.

But not all of her childhood memories on the farm were as perfect especially when it came to bugs!

In a 2009 interview on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Taylor shared a funny story about her childhood job on the farm.

She explained that her dad, Scott Swift, ran the farm when he wasn’t working as a stockbroker.

When she was just 5 years old, Taylor wasn’t allowed to cut down trees, but she was still put to work.

Her job was to remove praying mantis eggs from the Christmas trees.

The bugs would lay their eggs on the Douglas fir trees, so Taylor would pick them off and put them in a basket to keep them from infesting people’s homes.

On the show, Fallon joked about how cute it was, and Taylor agreed, calling it “an adorable little hobby.”

Today, it’s a common problem for people who bring fresh-cut Christmas trees into their homes.

Bugs like aphids and spiders can hitch a ride on the tree and cause an infestation once they’re inside.

Taylor’s family moved to Nashville when she was almost 13, but the memories of the Christmas tree farm stayed with her.

Ten years later, she turned those memories into her song “Christmas Tree Farm,” which was released in December 2019.

As for Taylor’s Christmas plans this year, we don’t know what she’s doing yet.

But we do know that her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, will be in Pennsylvania with the Kansas City Chiefs, playing against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
