Why Tottenham’s Boss Thinks Coaching Football Is Tougher Than Being Prime Minister

Tottenham Hotspur’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, has made a bold claim: running a football team is even harder than being a prime minister.

Why? Because while politicians face elections every few years, football managers face them every single weekend.

A Tough Job with No Guarantees

Postecoglou’s team recently broke a five-game streak without a win, beating Southampton in the Premier League.

But the win had a bittersweet twist it led to Southampton’s manager, Russell Martin, losing his job, just hours after Wolves fired their boss, Gary O’Neil.

For Postecoglou, this highlights how hard football management is. “It’s the hardest job out there,” he said. “You don’t come out of it without some scars.”

Why It’s Harder Than Politics

When asked if managing a football team is tougher than leading a country, Postecoglou didn’t hesitate.

“Oh yeah, absolutely,” he said. “Prime ministers have elections every few years. I have one every weekend.

You either win and keep your job or lose and get questioned about your future.”

The 59-year-old Australian thinks society has become too quick to throw managers aside without much thought.

“People are already talking about who will replace you while you’re still working.

There’s no respect for the job anymore,” he said.

Can a Trophy Change Things?

Tottenham hasn’t won a trophy since 2008, and Postecoglou believes winning one could improve the mood among fans.

But he also has bigger goals.

“Sure, a trophy might make a big difference here,” he admitted. “But for me, it’s about building a club that competes for trophies every year.

Maybe I’m wrong, though. Maybe that’s all this place needs—a trophy.”

What’s Next for Spurs?

Tottenham will face Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Thursday.

Will a win bring the transformation Postecoglou hopes for? Only time will tell.

For now, Postecoglou’s message is clear: being a football manager isn’t just about tactics and players it’s about surviving constant judgment, pressure, and expectations.
