How AI is Changing the Job Hunt — And Why It’s Not Always Perfect

How AI is Changing the Job Marketplace

AI is showing up everywhere in job hunting and hiring. It helps people fix up resumes and cover letters, and it helps companies sort through piles of applicants.

But AI isn’t perfect — sometimes it messes up big time.

Meet Kendiana. She’s a college student in Ohio who needed a summer job.

She applied for a gym sales job and was told an AI bot would interview her.

At first, Kendiana thought it’d be like chatting with Siri, but then things got weird. The AI started repeating the same phrase over and over — “vertical bar pilates” — like a broken robot.

Kendiana found it creepy and confusing and decided to look for other jobs instead.

Kendiana’s story isn’t rare. Lots of companies now use AI to help with hiring. In fact, almost 9 out of 10 companies use AI to screen job candidates before humans even see them.

Some even use AI to do the interviews! This makes hiring faster and cheaper because companies get tons of applications — some get thousands for just one job.

But here’s the catch: AI doesn’t always pick the best people. Studies show that many qualified candidates get rejected by AI tools.

Why? Because AI can be biased or just plain wrong. Plus, AI can’t tell when someone is a great fit beyond keywords and data.

Still, AI makes hiring way faster and cheaper, which is why companies keep using it.

Meanwhile, job seekers are fighting back by using AI too — to write better resumes and cover letters and keep up with the bots.

In the end, AI is changing the game, but it’s not a perfect matchmaker yet.

So if you’re job hunting, don’t just trust the bots — keep being human, and keep pushing for what you want.
